Pongal Celebration 2020 Padur

Pongal is a four-day-long Harvest Festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu. This four-day festival of thanksgiving to nature takes its name from the Tamil word meaning “to boil” and is held in the month of Thai (January-February) during the season when rice and other cereals, sugar-cane, and turmeric (an essential ingredient in Tamil cooking) are harvested.

Pongal was celebrated with lot of excitement and enthusiasm on 11 January 2020 at Hindustan International School, Padur. It started with a graceful Bharathanatyam performance. Cultural programmes like Kolattam, Kumiattam, Mayilattam, Silambattam, Puliyattam, etc. were performed by Students. Students also spoke about the importance of the Pongal celebration.Parents took part in Uri adi and Kummiattam. They relished the typical festival snacks like Javvu mittai, Kuchi ice, Paniyaram and thrills such as Ranga Raattinam, Kodai Rattinam, Safaris on bullock and horse added more to the enjoyment.  The event brought a true reality show of life to the dwellers of village for a day. Students and the Parents walked back home with the pride of understanding the values of Pongal and the history behind all the games and practices. The whole Campus was vibrant as the children wished each other, ‘Pongalo Pongal’. On the whole, the celebration at HIS, Padur was a resounding success with happiness and enjoyment amounts the Hindustan International School padur fraternity.
